Dr. Casey Thomas graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University and is a 1981 graduate of the Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He has owned and operated Flint Hills Veterinary Hospital with his wife Joyce since 1984.
Dr. Thomas enjoys caring for all kinds of pets including dogs, cats, pocket pets, reptiles, and birds. He has a special interest in internal medicine, general surgery, and surgical and preventive dentistry.
Dr. Alice Shaffer joined the staff at Flint Hills Veterinary hospital in July of 2008. She is from Lebanon, Kentucky and lives with her husband David. David is in the Army and stationed at Fort Riley.
Dr. Shaffer did her undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky and graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Her pets include Toby (a Shih -Tzu Mix), Foster ( a Schnauzer Mix), Sage ( a Yorkie/Shih Tzu-mix), and Crystal (five year old Labrador Retriever).
Dr. Christine Smith joined the staff at Flint Hills Veterinary Hospital in June of 2011. She is a native of Idaho and is a 2009 graduate of the Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Her special interests include orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, and pocket pets.
Dr. Smith lives with her husband Brennan, her cat Moose, and an Anatolian mixed breed dog named Shep.

Joyce has worked at Flint Hills Veterinary Hospital since it was established in 1984. She is a native of Junction City, and a graduate of Kansas State University. She is the business and office manager. She and Dr. Thomas currently have two dogs, but that number always seems to change! Every pet they have owned (or that have owned them) has been adopted or abandoned. They also have two bearded dragons that live at the hospital.
Holly joined our team as a Veterinary Assistant after moving from Florida in June 2008. Recently she was promoted to the position of Hospital Manager. She's currently pursuing her Veterinary Technician Degree on line. Some of her duties include scheduling employees, overseeing patient and boarder care, collection of lab samples, monitoring hospitalized patients, assisting in surgery, performing lab tests and routine dentals.
Holly enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs, Dixie, a four year-old Parson Terrier and Piper, a five year-old English Bull Terrier. Dixie is pictured here. Her interests include the outdoors, traveling, scuba diving, and photography.
Christina joined our staff as a veterinary assistant in the Spring of 2010. She worked almost three years in another hospital before moving to the Junction City area. She always has a smile on her face and is lots of fun to be around.
Grace started working at Flint Hills Veterinary hospital in the Fall of 2010. She grew up in Maine and lived on a farm where she cared for dogs, cats, cattle, horses, sheep, and chickens. This is her first job at a veterinary hospital, and she really enjoys watching and helping in surgery.
She lives in Kansas with her husband and two dogs Humphrey and Layla.
Jasmine started working at Flint Hills Veterinary Hospital as a kennel assistant in December of 2010. She grew up in New Mexico. She likes sports, photography, and puzzles.
The most surprising thing she has learned in her job is that we see lots of different kinds of animals at Flint Hills.
Dedra, shown here with her dog Erszi, has been a volunteer at Flint Hills Veterinary Hospital since 1998. She graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Animal Science and Industry. Dedra lives in rural Geary County with her dogs, horses, and rabbits.
Dedra works in the exam rooms and helps in the treatment area with patient care and surgery. We always appreciate her help and friendly attitude!
Megan graduated from Junction City High School and is a student at Cloud County Community College. She began working at our hospital in the Fall of 2008. Megan works as a veterinary assistant and hopes to attend veterinary school.
